Donate to Girls Who Code

O'Reilly believes strongly in the value of increasing diversity at our conferences and creating a productive and inclusive environment for all participants.

We're working in concert with JSConf to help support diversity in the Javascript/web technologies community; they've told their terrific story here. We intend to try this approach at our other O'Reilly conferences, and we hope to see it spread to other events.

While Fluent 2013 registration is open, we're raising funds to send to Girls Who Code. We ask that you join us in supporting Girls Who Code by making a donation when you sign up. We'll match those donations at the end of the conference.

We've chosen to support Girls Who Code because their mission is to equip 13- to 17-year-old girls with the skills and resources to pursue computer science opportunities in robotics, web design, and mobile development. Like O'Reilly, they work to close the gender gap in the technology and engineering sector.

This is the first time we've asked folks to make a donation while registering for a conference. O'Reilly wouldn't usually make a financial contribution selected by default, but we hope this underscores how crucial we think it is to support diversity. Of course you can choose not to donate, or to contribute directly if you prefer.

Thank you for considering this project. We welcome your thoughts about this or other successful diversity efforts you've encountered. Send suggestions, comments, and feedback to diversity@oreilly.com.
